Local Democracy Week

On 12th October 2017 three members of the School Council’s Executive Committee attended Stoke-on-Trent’s Local Democracy week.

To begin with the children sat in groups and thought of ways they could improve the city and heard all about Stoke-on-Trent’s bid to become the City of Culture in 2021.

Next the children took part in their own vote and posted their slips in the ballot box.

We had the opportunity to look around the Mayor’s parlour and meet the Lord Mayor, Ross Irving and the Lady Mayoress, Christine Warren.

Lastly the children went into the Council Chambers where they got the opportunity to meet some more councillors and ask them some questions about their job and what their role involves.

The children really enjoyed their afternoon and all received a certificate for taking part. Well done Lydia, Nathan and Charntai for representing Milton Primary Academy in such a positive way.
