Why do you love me so much? -Autumn Term 2020
Initially this half term our Nursery children will be learning the daily routines of the classroom and how to access their own play activities. They will also be developing their independence as they learn how to put on and fasten their coats and go to the toilet remembering to wash and dry their hands. They will also learn how to access the snack table to choose a healthy snack, pour their own drink and wash their own cup afterwards. The children will also learn to be part of a group, taking turns to share ideas and building good relationships with others.
Within the half term we will also explore the topic, ‘Why do you love me so much?’ The children will have an opportunity to develop knowledge, understanding and imagination about themselves and others. We will be making a wow wall within our classroom to celebrate each child and their family. As always in Nursery the interest will be developed taking account of the children’s interests and ideas.
Can I have a pet? – Spring 1 2021
This half term our topic is ‘Can I have a pet?’ We will begin our topic by talking about our own pets and asking the children to bring in photographs of their pets to share and talk about with others. We will focus on a variety of stories, including ‘Dear Zoo’, ‘The Great Pet Sale’ and ‘Rumble in the Jungle’. We will also find out about a variety of animals and their habitats using non-fiction texts. Our role play area will become the vets and we will be able to role play being a vet and looking after the animals. Our literacy focus will be to write our names and to write some clearly identifiable letters. We will be creating our own lift the flap books based on ‘Dear Zoo’ and writing posters for the pet sale. As part of our maths activities we will be looking at counting, matching numeral to quantity, 3D shape, sorting and sharing animals. During our art activities we will look closely at animals and their patterns and will enjoy exploring through paint and collage.
