Year 2

Welcome to Year 2

n Year 2, we focus on building independence and resilience towards learning. We encourage our learners to be curious and resilient when trying new things and to maintain a positive attitude. Expectations are high; we take our academy values very seriously because we understand just how crucial they are to achieving lifelong success.

Our Team

We are extremely excited to be able to introduce ourselves as Year Two. In 2SW, Miss Wilde is the class teacher. In 2IM, Miss Manders is the class teacher and Mrs Potts-Hewson is the teaching assistant for both classes. Teachers and Teaching Assistant’s work together to ensure every child’s needs are met on a daily basis. We work together to ensure that we all have an in-depth knowledge and understanding of each child in the cohort, which in turn enables each child to feel secure and safe in our academy. We are passionate about our vocation and we always want the children to achieve their best whilst creating fun and meaningful life-long memories.

What can parents do?

The most important thing that parents and carers can do at home to support their child’s learning is regular reading followed by discussion about the book. Alongside this, in Year 2, building their confidence with the 2, 3, 5 and 10 times table will provide them with an excellent foundation for their mathematical development.

We are friendly and approachable and we welcome any ideas that you may have to further your child’s education. We feel it is important that all parents/guardians have a strong communication with the staff as this creates a strong community and we advocate an open door policy.

We are looking forward to the year ahead as we are all on a journey to success.

Your Teachers’ Favourite Books

Miss Manders – I Want My Hat Back (Jon Klassen)

A picture-book delight by a rising talent tells a cumulative tale with a mischievous twist. The bear’s hat is gone, and he wants it back. Patiently and politely, he asks the animals he comes across, one by one, whether they have seen it. Each animal says no, some more elaborately than others.

Miss Wilde – The Tiger who Came to Tea (Judith Kerr)

A modern classic. On an ordinary evening, a stranger comes knocking and ransacks the kitchen! What will Sophie and her Mummy do now? A delightful story with beautiful illustrations.

We hope that you find the information that we have shared on our class page useful, but if you have any questions or would like to speak to a member of our team, please email milton@learningvillage.org.uk and a Year 2 teacher will be in touch!
