Year 6

Welcome to Year 6

The Big 5 underpin everything we do in Year 6. We expect children and staff to set HUGE Goals in order to continuously challenge themselves and those around them. We expect all pupils to take personal responsibility for their learning and actions both in the classroom and around the academy. We expect ‘bouncebackability’ when the going gets tough. We expect positivity in every lesson of every day to maximise our enjoyment at school. And finally, we want all children to know their impact and by following our academy motto ‘Together We Achieve Our Best’, Year 6 will reach their true potential.

The Year 6 Team

Your class teachers are Miss Redford and Miss Heath, who are ably supported by Mrs Holdcroft, Mrs Gittins and Miss Ellis. All the team believe passionately that every child can and will succeed. We are committed to each child in our class. However, we expect full commitment in return.

We promise to work hard to give them the tools they need to become lifelong learners. We look forward to seeing each and every member of Year 6 grow on their journey towards High School.

Your Teachers’ Favourite Books

Miss Heath – The Secret Garden (Frances Hodgson Burnett)

The Secret Garden (1909) is one of Frances Hodgson Burnett’s most popular novels. The book tells the story of Mary Lennox, a spoiled, contrary, solitary child raised in India but sent to live in her uncle’s manor in Yorkshire after her parents’ death. She is left to herself by her uncle, Mr. Craven, who travels often to escape the memory of his deceased wife. The only person who has time for Mary is her chambermaid, Martha. It is Martha who tells Mary about Mrs. Craven’s walled garden, which has been closed and locked since her death. Mary becomes intrigued by the prospect of the forgotten garden, and her quest to find out the garden’s secrets leads her to discover other secrets hidden in the manor. These discoveries combined with the unlikely friendships she makes along the way help Mary come out of her shell and find new fascination with the world around her.

Miss Redford’s –

The Hobbit: The Hobbit is a tale of fantasy and adventure filled with magical creatures and mystical lands. It tells the story of Bilbo Baggins – a hobbit – who enjoys the comforts of his small, cosy home in the Shire. That is until the great wizard Gandalf pays him a visit. Gandalf convinces Bilbo to join him and a group of dwarves on a quest to reclaim the Kingdom of Erebor. His adventure takes him to treacherous lands swarming with orcs, goblins and countless other dangers. Bilbo meets Gollum, whose seemingly simple gold ring is tied to the fate of Middle Earth in ways he couldn’t have imagined.
